Speaker Bio

As head of macroeconomic and investment research at Guggenheim Partners, Brian Smedley leads a team of economists and investment strategies who develop and communicate the firm’s macro and asset allocation views.



Previously, Mr. Smedley was the head of U.S. Short Rates Research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he covered cash, derivative, and funding markets, as well as Federal Reserve policy and financial regulation. Prior to that, he served as a senior trader and analyst in the Markets Group for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In that role, he was responsible for Forex, commodities, and buy-side relationship management. He began his career at the New York Fed, and has also worked for the U.S. Treasury Department and the White House Council of Economic Advisors. Mr. Smedley has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Utah State University and a master’s degree in international development studies from The George Washington University.
